Laser marking system for cylinder liners with fully automatic check of the marking result

Two high-precision 30W lasers enable simultaneous marking on the side and top edge of the cylinder liners. Logos and serial numbers as well as barcodes or data matrix codes can be applied. A live image camera is mounted in the closed machine interior for process visualization. Thereby, the system operator is constantly informed about the current status of the machine even in automatic mode, and can also monitor the activities via remote maintenance.

Before the cylinder liner is transferred to the cleaning system, both the code readability and the completeness of the marked texts and logos must be checked. The AMTident reading system integrated in the MarkCL inspects the marking result fully automatically and thus replaces the previous manual check of the marking. In order to achieve the highest identification rates, the latest vision technology as well as appropriate illumination equipment and inhouse developed vision algorithms are used.

Thanks to the high marking quality in combination with the fully automatic verification, the MarkCL laser marking machine at Mahle is making a significant contribution to increasing productivity and reducing reject parts.
